Safety Comes Standard!

Before we talk about their differences, we should point out that both of them feature most of the same safety features and both sedans are 2018 Top Safety Picks by IIHS. No matter which sedan in which trim level you choose, you'll find both come standard with features such as Electronic Stability Control, the four-wheel antilock braking system (ABS), front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, Brake Assist and several airbags including front side-impact and head curtain airbags.

Lots of Speed to Choose From!

One key difference between these two sedan models is in the types of engines that come available: both feature high-performance V6 engines, in their base trim levels as well as enhanced V8 engines in their higher trim levels. However, the Genesis G80 features an additional 3.8-liter, 311 horsepower V6 engine which runs on unleaded fuel rather than premium unleaded. The Genesis G80 also features coil spring and sport Ride Type on its base trim level suspension which provides very responsive turns, similar to driving a sports car. The Genesis G90 features air spring suspension, which provides the most level driving experience making any road feel as smooth as can be, regardless of how rocky it might get. This air suspension is also features in the higher trim levels of the Genesis G80 with the 5.0-liter, 420 horsepower V8 engine that is available on both sedans.

Another more subtle difference between the two sedans is in the amount of conveniences and comforting amenities that they feature. Whereas, some of these features come available or optional on the G80, you'll find that they are standard on the G90. Such features include:

  • Front fog lights
  • A power rear sunshade
  • Speed-Sensitive Volume Control
  • The Genesis Premium Navigation System (the G80 features the Standard Navigation System)
  • And power-adjustable heated automatic tilt-down exterior mirrors with three-way memory settings (the G80 features two-position memory settings)
